The queen of this species measure about 8mm, the workers were between 2 and 5 mm and the male about 6 mm dark brown to black.
The cobblestones ants are omnivorous, feeding on plant and animal matter in nature. In the home, they go for meat, nuts, cheese and honey, but preference will go to the meat and fat.
The cobblestones ants moved into the house more often than at ground level under the concrete slab of a ready source of heat especially in winter, but may be seen in walls, insulation and underfloor the ground Floor.
Outside the queen and the males mate in flight (spin), usually in early June and late July, but may do so at any time indoors.
